After a few interactions last night, some observation and some quick “googling” to confirm, I think It’s time for a good old fashioned rant. Expect there to be some potty mouth language used. It is called for in this case. Some of my rage is from misinformation and some is for overreacting. Most though is aimed directly at those that use tragedy to cause more tragedy. I hope your in the mood for a rant cause that’s what you have in store. Now lets get down to the bitching.
Customer Worries!
Last night at work there were multiple pages for help at the sporting goods counter. Having a set of keys myself I went to see if I could go help the customer out. As it turns out I couldn’t. He was looking for some ammunition. I turned and looked at the case and was startled at how empty it was. There was only a few boxes left of unpopular calibers. If I remember correctly we had .357, 22 mag, 17 HMR, .40 , .45 long colt, .22-250 and I think 243 Winchester. Yes so little left I can actually remember all of them. The guy was looking for some .22 Long Rifle, which I have never seen a shortage of before. Not even when Obama first took office and we had the long running ammo shortage was I unable to find .22 ammo. Me and the guy started chatting a bit and he had heard some wild stories recently.
Rumors Rumors!
This guy had heard some doozies. First he stated that gun’s were going to jump up in price by $200~$300 at midnight. I scoured the internet looking for any reference to this and could not find any. Nothing fixed anyway. Gun prices are going through the roof right now. Due to people buying them up like there’s no tomorrow. From dropping in on Gunbroker and some trading groups It looks like many are doing this just to re-sale them higher. One fucking idiot I saw was bragging and advertising he had two PMAGS on GunBroker for $75 for both. $75 for two blobs of fucking plastic! I wanted to tell him where he could insert those mags. I can’t stand this sort of behavior, of taking advantage of a situation to fuck people over. I myself, have been looking for 2 PMAGS for personal use for upcoming training classes. I was not going to pay some asshole a ton of money though, I would invent a cardboard disposable magazine first. Try me and see. Luckily one of my readers saw my issue and offered to sale me some at a fair price. The other rumor this guy had heard was that there’s talk to make ammunition and gun powder that has short expiration dates. Yes ammo that will expire, on purpose, and be worthless to prevent stockpiling. I also vetted this on the internet and the closest thing I found was ammo limits to prevent stockpiling. So please check on the things you hear. There is so much bullshit flying around now we need to keep a calm head and not be dicks.
Low on Ammo!
This is exactly what happened in 2008 and continued for a long time. The gun community bought more ammunition than the companies could keep up with. The shortage of ammo is created by us. I remember how bad it sucked then to find ammo. I’m not looking forward to it again. Yes I have some ammo. Is it enough? Well can you really ever have enough? I usually don’t have too much on hand because I train often. If I have a few hundred rounds of .223 I go to the range. Becoming and maintaining firearms proficiency requires plenty of range time and I can’t afford to buy a thousand rounds just to keep in storage. I slowly build it up. I usually grab a box or two when I head to the range. Hopefully this time it’s not a long lasting ammo drought. The only good from this is I’ve finally decided to take up reloading. Components are easier to get and cheaper anyway.

In closing I just want to say that as we gun enthusiast are under attack from the media and politicians the last thing we need to be doing is fucking each other over to make a few bucks. Yes buy a few extra by all means. Do you really need two cases of PMAGS? Do you really think it’s wise to max out your credit card on a million rounds of ammo. Your not helping anyone. We should fight harder the politicians who are wrong. Stricter gun control will only do us more harm. Criminals break the laws by definition. An unarmed weak citizenship is at the whim of those that break laws and create them. Instead of hoarding we need to stop this bill dead in it’s tracks! Gun control equals people control.
