The news is full of gun control talk right now in the aftermath of the newest shooting. Facebook has been awash with pro and anti gun sentiments. It seems that there is a ton of support for legislature to ban “assault weapons”, limit magazine capacities and basically disarm the citizenry. In the wake of all this gun and magazine sales have gone through the roof. Price gouging is rampant on the internet. Even sadder many gun companies are giving in to the pressure. Today I going to give you my opinion on these issues. Warning I may snap out and use bad language.
Selling like hotcakes!
Yesterday I went to Nashville Armory to pick up a gift for a friend. They do rentals of full automatic weapons and he really want to shoot full auto. So when I get to the parking lot it is absolutely packed. I ended up parking next door and walking back over. When I get inside the place is slammed. The line at the range counter is all the way to the back of the store. The shelves are bare, it looked like all the Carbines were gone leaving only a few hunting weapons. I thought I would pick up a PMAG or two, HAHA. They had been out for days that guy at the counter said. The guy in line in front of me had the counter sprawled with Glock magazines. It was sheer pandemonium. On a whim I stopped at another gun store down the street, they were not busy at all with only two customers but were also out of PMAGs. The owner gave me some ideas where I might find some. I have a friend that works for the local background check office and she said pulled a 14 hour day and processed almost 4,000 checks. So I guess I’ll have to go looking for PMAGs later today.
Gun Control
Alright now lets get down to the real issue here. People are scared. Both sides, anti-gun people are afraid of gun violence, of children being murdered and Pro-gun people are afraid of Bans and restrictions. Decisions made from a fearful mindset are never rational. Gun’s are not the real problem here. Murder has existed for as long as biological life has existed. Our prehistoric ancestors murdered off the neanderthals[1]. The early humans committed genocide with their more powerful weapons of mass destruction being stones and sticks. Are we going to ban assault rocks next? In Jurassic Park there is a quote I like where Dr. Malcolm says “Life finds a way” alternatively so does death. Those that choose to take a life will always so. They will use whatever they can. The people committing these murders are not sane. A sane man does not kill his mother then go into a school and shoot children. Those are acts of a damaged mind. From what I’ve read about it people who knew the young man were not entirely shocked by his actions. They knew that something was wrong with him. Yet no action was taken to get him helped?
People Kill not Weapons
This term is all throughout the gun community. Gun’s don’t kill People Kill. Inanimate objects cannot perform vile acts. People can though and do. Another term being used and one that is very true is the”Criminals do not obey laws”. If a person is willing to commit murder then any other law pales in comparison. Going into a “gun free” means nothing to a murderer. Those of us who legally carry though will have to avoid it. Meaning that those who could stop the violence are not there. I personally hope I never have to fire at another person in defense. I do not carry out of some hero syndrome. However if I could stop a maniac from killing someone I would as would anyone who carries. I have grown to hate the argument made that these situations would turn into out of control gun fights. They are already out of control gun fights but one sidded ones. One with only victims.
Gun Nuts and Cowards
The current atmosphere has polarized the gun community. With a few of us in the middle. I’ve not made any unplanned purchases. I have been meaning to pick up another magazine for a while now, for training classes I plan to take this year. So far for me recreational shooting I’ve managed to do just fine with the two magazines I own. Yes I only have two. One windowed PMAG and one metal stag arms factory one. So for the people that are buying cases of magazines making them scarce calm down. I can’t tolerate this panic buying frenzied. Do you think you will be in Red Dawn and need 100 loaded magazines to fight off an army? Stop being delusional and giving us a bad name. How much are you spending on magazines instead of buying food or other necessities? The other side to this is the companies that are giving in to gun control pressure. Do you have no backbone? Turning your backs on the people that buy your products is never a wise move. The gun community has a good memory and will spread word to not shop with you. If you google PMAG right now you will see pages ranting about Cheaper Than Dirts price gouging going on right now. It seems they were selling PMAGs for $60! To which many are now refusing to ever order from them again. So long Cheaper than Dirt. Never pee in your own pool. Other companies are pulling AR15’s from stock. The companies left not gouging or being cowards are making more money than they know what to do with. Keep up the good work guys.
The Future?
The future is murky for us all. I’m not sure where this is all headed. I once again urge all of you to take care of the basics. Get your preps in order. Times may get rough but we will survive. Remember to make wise choices. Not decisions from a fear clouded mind but one from logic on whats best for you and your loved ones. I’ll leave you with a favorite quote of my from the Dune books:
LITANY AGAINST FEAR
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
