Utopia: Episode 1 Review
Have you heard about Fox’s new reality show Utopia? The premise is to take 14 “pioneers” and have them create utopia. They are given 5 acres of land with a few resources. There are some cows and chickens. Land to farm on. A lake and a waterfall. A barn to live in. No toilets and no power. They group is very diverse. So how did they choose to spend their first few days in Utopia? What were their priorities? What did I think about the first episode? Oh let me tell you.
Utopia
Take 14 people with different backgrounds and toss them into isolation with little resources. What could go wrong? The Utopia compound sits on five acres. Large tracts are cleared for farming. They have a barn without much in it. The cow barn has running water. Only the front gate has electricity working. There seems to be a hole in the ground for waste. There is a safe with five grand and some food supplies. They have to live for 1 year being filmed 24/7
Bringing Supplies
When the pioneers came to Utopia they put all the items they were bringing into a crate When they arrived they learned they had to fill up a larger crate and could only bring those items. Meaning some items would have to be left. One guy stood in the back quietly not debating on what items of his should be brought in. Until the crate was almost filled. At which point he demanded all his stuff was coming. No compromise. He blew up screaming. This is how the show began and when I learned how the show was going to be. With that my hopes were dashed. He eventually got all his crap in the crate. I would have told him to pound sand.
Priorities
The land has nothing growing on it. Limited resources. They have a lot to do to turn it into a productive land. To build the necessities of life. What do they do? Bust out the booze and have a party. One guy gets idiot drunk and get handsy with the ladies. He is trying to fight everyone. One girl gets so drunk she is taken to the ER the next day. All the women are skinny dipping causing the men to ogle them. Except the pastor that just sits on a stump looking the other way. No work is getting done. The next day they start to dig a trench to use the electricity from the front gate to the barn. But only a few guys are working on it. The rest are in a trial.
The lawyer that is there decided to have a trial for the drunk assclown. To decide if he should be thrown out. This takes a long time. They make a big deal out of it. Some peoples crazy really comes out. So instead of digging the trench they are holding court. They put the guy on probation. Sorry but my Utopia would be me tossing that lawyer over the gate.
I think two day’s or so went by in the first episode. In that time nothing happened. I learned nothing from the show. Just drama drama drama. Ugh. This show had so much potential. In the end I’m done with it. I’m not interested in watching 90210 Off Grid. It was nothing but yelling and bitching. I thought it would be like the show the colony. Which I loved. I had to force myself to finish the show to be able to write this review. I will not be watching anymore. We need a prepper production company to make good shows.
Final Thoughts
If you have not yet watched this show don’t. Forget I even mentioned it. Don’t waste two hours of your life on this garbage.
