Revolutionary Songs For the Rebellious

Today I have an article I’ve been kicking around for a while. Music is a big part of the human experience, used to convey emotions and desires common to all mankind. Today I’ve collected some songs to represent the current revolutionary spirit welling up in not only Americans but people all throughout the world. The governments keep getting bigger and taking more power for themselves and removing more of our freedoms. The songs I picked today show that feeling and strike a chord with me. Some are newer songs and some are older from the hippie movement that saw that government was evil. So lets get down with some music today.

Jordan Page “Liberty” (Acoustic Version)

Jordan Page is a young Singer/Songwriter and itinerant musician seeking to mobilize a new generation to stand up for their country and the rights of the individual. Jordan uses his talents to promote a message of peace while educating and mobilizing resistance to tyranny and the erosion of American civil rights. This song is beautiful and I’m glad I found it while researching this article. You can check out this great musician here

Watchman by Pokerface.

Poker Face has been dubbed the leading truth/freedom band in the Union. I had not heard about this band before but will be keeping an eye on them from now on. This song resonates with many of my frustrations I have. It was a unique sound that i like. You can find out more about them at their site here.

Frank Turner – Sons of liberty

While researching this I was happily surprised to find this gem by Frank Turner. I am a fan of Frank and have seen him live and somehow missed or forgot about this song. Frank Turner  is an English folk/punk singer-songwriter from Meonstoke, Hampshire. This is a catchy rebellious tune that will definitely put you in a mood for rebellion. You should check out the rest of Franks music here.

Too Late to Apologize

I love when an important message can have some humor in it. Too Late To Apologize: a Declaration” is Soomo’s first satirical video project and is part of our ongoing effort to facilitate learning in creative, innovative ways. I feel that this is great for communication to the children today the important message of our founding fathers taught through a tune they can recognize. Also I think it’s pretty catchy. Check out their site here.

Muse – Uprising

This one didn’t surprise me that it made it on the list. I am a pretty big fan of the band Muse. In writing this article I found out even more reasons to like the band. Lead singer Matthew Bellamy describes himself as a left leaning libertarian. In describing this song “Uprising” He expressed his views that he feels lobbyists have undue influence on politicians as well as the political system. He states that “when people become powerful they often have a disregard for public opinion. Muse is a great band to look into further check them out here.

Aimee Allen “Save Me (Wake Up Call)”

Many of you will recognize Aimee from here Ron Paul appearances. This song will put a fire under your ass and fill you with a revolutionary spirit. She has a new Album coming out soon with her band The Interrupters you can find out more here.

Freewill – Rush

In researching this I found out that many Rush songs were inspired by author Ayn Rand. In 2005 drummer and lyricist described himself as a left leaning libertarian. I grew up listening to Rush and enjoying it but not really paying attention to the lyrics. Now I will be paying more attention.

#3

The Beatles – Revolution

This has always been my favorite Beatles song. The message is a little too hippie for me but the guitar rifts in this song are absolutely amazing. It will get the blood flowing for sure.

#2

Buffalo Springfield – For What Its Worth

Though this song was written long ago for a different reason, like all good songs, it has a meaning that can apply to the current times. To me it speaks of an oppressive government enforcing by gun and threats. This song resonates with me about current affairs, it is a really timeless song.

That ends my song list to put you in a revolutionary spirit. After listening to the entire list I claim no responsibility for an overwhelming desire to overthrow any tyrannical governments. That is the mood I am in after writing this and listening to these songs many times over.
