Libby’s Foil Pack Corned Beef
Today is the last in the Libby’s Foil pack meat review series. Much of the generalaties on my thoughts for these in Bug Out and Bug in situations has been covered. Today I’ll cover the specific nutritional value of the Foil Corned beef and what their role in a bug out/in would be.
Nutritional Info
The Corned Beef comes in a 7oz foil package unlike the 6oz for the other two products. The total calories in this come out to 420 180 coming from fat. This is both the most total calories and the most fat of all three reviewed. The carbohydrates come in at less than 1 gram with the same for sugar. The ingredients list on this package are very minimal coming in at just four, which are as follows: Cooked Beef, Salt, Sugar, Sodium Nitrate. I love that there are so few things in here.
The Taste
Like all the other packages I tried this one straight from the pack. This one was without a doubt the worst one straight from the pack. It glops out the container in a greasy sloppy mess. The smell hit’s you in the face like Tyson causing the stomach to churn. I was a little worried about eating this one. When I did it tasted like grease and salt, two things I normally love, and had to force myself to swallow it down. I decided that eating this one plain was damn near impossible and decided to make it into an no bread Ruben. I sauteed onions added in the glop of corned beef to heat up, put in some sour kraut, mustard, horseradish and cheese. The resulting dish looked pretty disgusting but tasted amazing. I devoured the entire concoction. I would have gone for seconds if I had them.
Conclusion
I will not be buying anymore of the Corned Beef packs. The only reason to get the foil packs is to save weight when traveling and to take these with you you would also need to pack along a lot of stuff to add to it. The only place these would be good would be at home and I would rather store cans of corned beef at home they are the better value. To end my series on the Libby’s Foil packs I conclude to store the Seasoned Beef Crumbles at home, The Spicy ones in Go packs and the Corned beer at the store. Do not buy the Corned beef foil packs.
I hope you enjoyed this series on the Libby’s Foil packs. Next Week I’ll be doing paleo(ish) MRE option to take when Bugging Out/ Camping.
