I just recently found out that my friend Dave from the Shepard School bought some land and is trying to set up a school and some projects on it. The thing slowing him down is that he is not living on the land yet and needs some money for infrastructure and someone to live on site and manage it. For the job of living on it and improving it he if offering a piece of it to build a home on. I got super excited about this news. Removing the cost of buying land from the homesteading equation makes things much easier. Over the weekend I went out and toured the property, 15+ acres, and was filled with ideas of all the possibility the land had. I want to help Dave out and get him some word of mouth about the kickstarter.
The Dream
Dave is halfway to the goal of his permaculture homestead. He has land, raw land with not much of anything on it. He want’s to get projects started and get animals on the land. It’s hard though with a full time job, family and hour and a half drive to get there. He has plans to put in some infrastructure and classroom buildings. All these things cost money though and to help with it He has started a kickstarter project to help fund the bigger projects. He want’s to build the structures using ferrocement building and has launched a modest kickstarter for this. He needs $2k for the project, which if me and all my readers gave only $3 he would be 100 percent funded. He will then document the process and give it back. If you want to check out his Kickstarter you can do so here
The Position
This is the other big news with the property. Dave is offering a land management position. It is not paid in any way. Well except for the fact that you get a piece of land to build a home on, land to grow food on, land to manage animals on and to be involved in the genesis of whats to become a great school and I believe a great community. If It is so great why am I not doing it. I have some things to take care of myself, debt to pay, and ideas for land of my own and a community. Not that I was not tempted and still am tempted. He’s a post he did about the project here.
If you are interested in these projects drop Dave a line and don’t forget to stop by the kickstarter page.
