Bacon Cinnamon Roll
I love bacon. It’s not much of a confession seeing as everyone that knows me knows this. Every time anything with bacon in it shows up on the internet people will tag me on Facebook. There is a bacon cinnamon roll picture going around that I’ve been shown a million times now. The idea is to buy a cinnamon rolls in the can and unroll them put bacon in them and roll them back up. While I’m sure this is probably tasty I will never try it. I just don’t eat that crap not even with bacon. It did give me an idea though. Why bother even using the cinnamon roll, just make the whole thing from bacon. I figured it would be either delicious or disgusting. Well folks I’m your guinea pig so lets try this.
Ingredients
- Thick cut bacon
- cinnamon
- Sweetener
I love when things have the fewest ingredients possible. In my opinion the less the better and only three is great. If you can get high quality locally sourced bacon this would be a time to do so. In the ingredients I listed sweetener so use whatever you have or like. In I had some splenda packets laying around so I used them. Stevia, honey, brown sugar or anything you want to use. I don’t think this recipe would be as good without some sweetness so use something.
Making It
To make this is super easy. I laid a piece of bacon on my cutting board and started rolling it up. Try to roll it tight but don’t smash the bacon. When you get to the last inch or two lay a new piece of bacon on it and continue rolling. I repeated this until I had rolled four pieces of bacon. It was about the right size at four pieces. Next I powdered the top and sides with lots of cinnamon and about a half packet of splenda. While doing this I preheated the oven to 350°. I used a cast iron skillet and cooked the roll for 45 minutes. I removed the bacon roll to rest and put some cinnamon in the skillet and whisked it in the bacon grease. I poured the bacon grease into a glass bowl and placed in the freezer for a few minutes. The bacon fat began to solidify and I poured it over the roll. You could also sweeten the fat but it tasted good enough I didn’t feel the need.
Taste
Holy crap did this thing taste good. The only way I’ve been able to describe it is like eating heaven. It was a home run. Bacon an cinnamon are meant to be together. It had a slight sweetness to it and although it did not taste exactly like a cinnamon roll I’d say it was better. Given the choice between a bread cinnamon roll or a bacon one I will choose bacon every single time. This is a perfect paleo cinnamon roll treat.
